Interestingly, these Arabian Nights prints are credited to Milo Winter, a well-known and very good artist. The origin of the text in the book that these prints are from, is not recognized at all on the cover page, nor on the cover of the book. Seems to be that the artist was more important than who wrote the stories.
We have to think that the art prints have something to do with the popularity that ensued with THIS translation. Boldly colorful, and very humorous, they are a delight to see. Each story has unique prints to go along with them, and the main character is often depicted in a comic, funny way. Almost all the men are like that, and the women are lovely and fine featured, classic beauties.
In digging deeper, this version of the stories of The Arabian Nights is given credit to Dr. Jonathan Scott, in 1811! Dr. Scott’s version is a translation, and a good one, from the original Arabic. It is stated in an Introduction to be much better than a French translation in the early 1700’s that was very popular in Europe for many decades.
The Arabian Nights Entertainments was illustrated by Milo Winters, published by Rand, McNally & Co., and copyrighted in 1914. This book is part of a series of books called the Windermere Series.
