Since having a pet, especially a dog, is a dream of so many children, it just seems natural to include vintage animal prints on our website, especially vintage dog prints.
Not all modern dogs are pictured in this very nice collection of old dog prints, but many many can be recognized. Some names are not exactly as we call dogs today, but the print will show particular dogs to be our dog of today. Many of these prints are of dogs in their element, hunting or rescuing prints, playing, working, and being companions to man. Children and adults alike will enjoy going through the large inventory of pictures of this fine old book.
The Book of Dogs was written by Louis Agassiz Fuertes and Others. It was illustrated by Mr. Fuertes, and the prints are truly lovely. He exercised real knowledge and skill in rendering his watercolor paintings. The book was published by The National Geographic Society, Washington D.C., with a copyright date of 1919.
The Book of Dogs is not just full of beautiful vintage dog prints. It gives a very good description of each dog pictured, and as an introduction, an intriguing "history" as to how dog and man came to respect and want companionship, one with the other.
