This selection of prints, A Child’s Book of Old Verses, is by one of our favorite illustrators, Jessie Willcox Smith. These are her best yet in the prints we have collected for this site. Very, very well done, classic in composition and subjects (mainly children), all with beautiful colors and detail.
Ms. Smith’s chosen prints may be familiar to some. I remember the print Little Things hanging in my obstetrician’s office, many years ago now. Jessie Willcox Smith’s prints are very popular even today. The print How Doth the Busy Bee could easily be put in a sewing room, or the room of a young girl who loves to sew.
Another ‘cute’ print is Let Dogs Delight. Kids and dogs, what a great combination, and this one is reminiscent of the ways of pups and pre-schoolers…A good one for the kitchen, or a family room…or a child who truly understands puppies!
Our first edition copy of the book A Child’s Book of Old Verses was selected and illustrated by Jessie Willcox Smith. It was published by Duffield & Company in 1910, copyright 1910.
