John Rae's vintage prints were chosen for our collection of old children's prints because of their charm, fine execution and color.  Highly detailed, we have chosen the Buddy Jim prints with the best quality.  The use of light is wonderfully done with either watercolor or possibly chalk.  There is much animation in the illustrations, as there should be because the prints are about a boy's first summer spent in the country.  The Old Dog Sandy print shows Jim in one of his first adventures.

Jim's summer is well illustrated in these prints. His parents have bought a home in the country for them to live in for the whole summer season.  Jim isn't pleased because he thinks he will be lonely, away from all his city friends.  But he soon finds out that that won't be true.  The book is a chapter book that gives the adventures of Jim meeting various woodland creatures, so we have adventure prints for many things Jim does in this country summer..

Buddy Jim was written by one of our favorite authors, Elizabeth Gordon.  We have several more collections of vintage illustrative art prints from Ms. Gordon's books, also in her 'nature's children' series.  (not all prints are from those books are currently displayed on this website).  Buddy Jim was illustrated by John Rae & Co. in 1922.  It was published by P.F.Volland & Co. of Chicago.
