In The Burgess Animal Book for Children prints, some of these fine vintage prints are of one species of animal only. Other prints show two animals of possibly related species. These animal prints are nice examples of watercolor prints of the day, showing animals in their habitat. Some, like "Whitefoot the Wood Mouse" don't show the animal out-of-doors, but in a house! Each animal has a name, such as 'Whitefoot the Wood Mouse' as you will see when you read the line beneath each print.
Mr. Thornton Burgess wrote this book in the hope that children would get to know the animals, and want to develop such an interest that they would work toward preserving the animals of North America. One idea that now seems way before its time!
The Burgess Animal Book for Children was published in 1920 by Little, Brown, and Company, Boston, MA. It was written by Thornton W. Burgess, and illustrated by Louis Agassiz Fuentes. We think you will find many of these illustrations to be great prints for kids' rooms, so they are included on our website.
