Cleaning very old books is often necessary if you want to get a good print of the illustrations. That did not happen with the artist's prints in the lovely children's book, Cows and Calves. We did very little to the images. This book is in excellent shape and therefore we also have some great Cows and Calves prints.
The vintage illustrations are really colorful, as well as expressive and detailed. The cow prints shows up well, a good example being Herds Came Together, along with the expressions on their faces. There are some comical cows cavorting across the pages of the prints, an example in black and white being Whole Head into It....
This isn't just a story, it is also an introduction into the different breeds of cows and cow behavior, woven into a funny story in storytelling form. And this herd is a snobby herd...
The vintage book Cows and Calves was published in 1912 by Barse & Hopkins, NY. It is a charming story written by Frances Trego Montgomery.
