Heidi Prints

Heidi Cover Watermark.jpg

The prints of the story of Heidi are by artist Jessie Willcox Smith. She is very well known for images of young children and friendly animals from long ago. The Heidi illustrations are rich in color, but the printing and paper of this copy unfortunately are not the best. However, through the 'magic' of technology we have revived those colors and the print quality.

These Heidi prints show her with short black curls, reveal her Grandfather depicted as an old man of the Alms, show Heidi with Clara the invalid and all the rest of the important people in the story.

One of our favorite prints is of Heidi in the snow-capped mountains with her friend Peter, having lunch, with goats all around. What a great place to spend even one day!

People of a certain age may think of Shirley Temple when they think of the story of Heidi. In reality, little Shirley Temple fit the story.  Heidi is written as a bright, straight-forward five year old, just as in 'the movie' made long ago. Little girls especially will enjoy these prints, and the story. If you haven't exposed your child to the story, it is worth finding a good copy.

Heidi was written by a well known Swiss author of the time, Johanna Spyri and illustrated by artist Jessie Willcox Smith. The book was printed by David McKay Company of Philadelphia, with a copyright of 1922.
